Guatemala City - In the context of the International Day for Transparency, held every December 9th, the Vice President of Guatemala, Rafael Espada, launched the National Campaign against Corruption on Sunday."We will send all the corrupt people to the devil", stated Vice-President Rafael Espada emphatically.
The goal of the campaign is to urge all Guatemalans to fight corruption through monitoring and enforcement of the law so that public resources are spent efficiently and encourages development of the neediest.
"This celebration is to reaffirm that Guatemala can be transparent, we can be honest. We want no more corruption. The day of December 9 is the World Day of Transparency and we want to remind you that we will fight against corruption, "said Vice President of Guatemala, Rafael Espada very emphatically.
In this sense, Espada reminded the audience that each year on December 7, Guatemala celebrates the traditional "burning of the Devil", "On this date, we will send corruption to the devil, all those who have offended us," he said.
The Vice President said that this government is working so that the taxes that Guatemalans pay will be used to develop the country, to serve the people. He stated that every corrupt government official will be expelled form this government. "We will not tolerate any person that abuses the resources that are from the people and for the people.
The UN commemorates each December 9 the International Anti-Corruption Day, on this date in 2003 the Convention was ratified at the UN, and it was ratified in Guatemala in 2005.
