| The Flanders Trip | | First of all, many thanks to Mark of Soverign Battlefield Tours. The trip was organised brilliantly. Once the party was in his care, everything was sorted. There was nothing more to worry about ? just relax and let Mark take the strain. Most impressive was the real-time research that was done on the ground to try to locate the people and places that [..] Leer nota completa | | Publicado 05-Jun-2008 por Pte Harry Lamin en General Leído 6 veces. | Letter to Kate 23rd November 1917 | | We can see from the Battalion's war Dairy that Harry is marching to the front line. The distances don't sound too demanding in today's terms but it is likely that the men were carrying their normal equipment and rifles all of which would weigh up to 30Kg (66lbs). On top of this, they were not well fed and had just spent 6 months in the Flanders battlefield. On 23rd, the distance marched was one [..] Leer nota completa | | Publicado 24-Nov-2007 por Pte Harry Lamin en General Leído 22 veces. | Maps and similar, 15th June 1918 | | Rocco has turned up some interesting material to help us understand the events of 15th June at Asiago. | Battle Of Menin Road, 20th September 1917 | | This was a major offensive in the 3rd battle of Ypres. The attack started at 5.40 A.M. Harry's battalion were in the second wave of troops supporting the attack. The careful planning of General Plumer, that had ensured success at Messines Ridge two months earlier, delivered some initial success this time.
