Enviar a email | When times are hard, anything is better than nothing en General | Por Pte Harry Lamin el 31-Dec-1969 | I apologise for the complete and utter lack of update. Since I last visited I have struggled to come to terms with how ill my father is. While I was visiting he was in hospital and the second round of chemo was started, not long after my brother was informed that the chemo may be holding back further degradation, but it probably won't make him any better. At this point dad struggles to walk, talk, hear, eat etc.
He has said he wants to stop the chemo, but I am of the opinion that we should at least wait until the doctors have confirmed either way, rather then basing this decision on an opinion.
In recent weeks my sister has said he has begun to lose his short term memory - we have begun to prepare ourselves for the worst.
The biggest problem we have faced is whether dad should stay in hospital or come home - some of us are of the opinion that while he is so weak and so unable to cope he is better staying in the hospital until we have had a downstairs toilet installed and are getting all the care we can out of social services to ensure he is looked after the best possible, while others argue that if he wants to go home he should go home regardless of the fact that he is neither well enough nor able to cope with out 24/7 care. I fall into the former camp and while I love my father dearly, I don't think it's fair on anyone to expect them to take full responsibility of a very seriously ill person who can't be left alone. This has been a really tough few weeks, particularly since I am 300 miles away in London and I want to be able to help everyone down there, but there is only so much to I can do. On top of this, I seem to have suffered a relapse of severe insomnia so am struggling to get a few hours sleep every night, which is turning me into an incredibly irritable person to be around (I apologise profusely to my poor, suffering boyfriend).
Anyway, thank you again for your messages of support, and I'm sorry I can't give you more optimistic news - I also apologise for the delay in writing this - sometimes I find it is easier to cope if I don't think about things and put them to the back of my mind and writing this blog puts everything back in the forefront again.
